Hotels & Convention Centers

Cobb Galleria Centre, Atlanta, GABWS Acoustics has extensive experience designing hotels and convention centers. The majority of hotels are located near airports or interstates where high levels of noise are anticipated. Therefore, special attention is required to provide occupants with an interior noise environment free of exterior noise intrusion. Unfortunately, many hotels suffer ‘bad press’ when the exterior noise environment is not addressed. The audibility of aircraft and surface vehicles can leave the hotel with unforeseen problems that are difficult to correct and that could seriously impact occupancy. When the hotel offers convention spaces, this could lead to loss of business because the same noise impacting guest rooms can be problematic for ballrooms and meeting rooms as well. Hotels and convention centers are complex from a design standpoint because they offer multiple function space types on one site. Resorts typically house ballrooms, meeting spaces, board rooms, spas, restaurants, aerobics and weight areas, outdoor recreation and living spaces. Providing privacy and a noise-free environment is of utmost concern to the owner and staff in ensuring each guest a pleasant stay. BWS works with the owner and architect to provide details that insure privacy requirements are met. Noise and vibration control design recommendations are also provided for emergency power systems, HVAC systems, elevators, laundry rooms. For meeting spaces, BWS makes certain that grand and junior ballrooms work acoustically in an open configuration or when divided into smaller segments using operable partitions. Typically operable partitions are field tested to guarantee minimum design requirements are met for larger conventions.
